#PardonPeopleNotTurkeys
Ronnie Long should never have been in prison. He should never have had to breathe air that reeks of grief, hardship, guilt and injustice. He survived 44 years behind bars, in a cage unfit for human life. Wrongfully imprisoned, his family, friends and attorneys had to fight long and hard for his freedom. Today, Ronnie Long stands a free man after his conviction was vacated. But for Ronnie Long, freedom ain’t really free. The cost of incarceration is a heavy burden, too heavy for any amount of money to ever repay. Even so, a pardon would be a step towards justice. It would allow for Ronnie Long to get some compensation from the state. Governor Roy Cooper should pardon Ronnie Long today. Now that is something we could all be thankful for.
