Gov. Cooper – Are You Listening Yet?

Last week, we delivered our letter to Gov. Roy Cooper asking him to use his clemency power to protect incarcerated people from COVID-19. Unless he acts in the next few weeks, Cooper will become the first governor in at least 40 years—and potentially more than 200 years— to refuse to grant a single commutation or pardon.

We are writing to you on behalf of a broad coalition of North Carolinians calling for justice, fairness and second chances for people incarcerated in our state prisons, especially Black people and other people of color. To date, you have failed to answer this call.
